Yoshiki from The Summer Hikaru died, kneeling on the floor while two yellow hands reach out to grab him by the neck.

The Summer Hikaru Died

It's been a while since a story has captured my heart, but The Summer Hikaru Died did so effortlessly. I'm a big fan of small town/countryside horror, but what really enthralled me was the tragedy between Yoshiki and the real Hikaru, how Yoshiki can't quite grief like he'd like to for the best friend he was in love with while finding himself falling for the entity residing in his body, and Hikaru wishing for his best friend to not be alone as he took his last breath. And the current Hikaru, who did not ask to be Hikaru's replacement, yet he feels like he is, all while coming to love Yoshiki as well. Ugh, my heart!

I've watched the first season, so I'm aware that some of these things have been resolved (i.e. Yoshiki knowing Hikaru's wish and Yoshiki saying Hikaru isn't a replacement) but the kind of heavy, turbulent emotioins brought about such complexities will undoubtedly linger. At the very least, I hope they do because a Yoshiki in distress does something to my psyche. I'm definitely getting physical copies of the manga, as well as the DVD for the anime when it comes out.

The Pigeon Hustle

PBS has come out with a delightful new documentary on pigeons called The Pigeon Hustle. We, the audience, observe how pigeons grow and live in the big cities of New York City and London. Did you know a pigeon can, in essence, turn off half of their brain? Did you know pigeons mated for life and can secrete milk for their young from a gland residing inside of their beaks? If you'd like to find out more absolutely delightful facts while watching pigeons living their pigeon lives, feel free to watch the documentary on YouTube. #notsponsored

Frankenstein (2025)

It is sick and twisted that my local cinema was not showing Frankenstein. Guillermo Del Toro, once again you have created a beautiful film with real, intricate places and stunning pieces of clothing. Hats off to the entire crew! I admit, I haven't finished watching yet (insert eye emoji) but that is because I know my heart will break after seeing clips and pictures of Jacob Elordi as the Creature. That is, indeed, an innocent baby that just wanted to be loved. What a phenomenal depiction! My apologies for doubting you, Jacob Elordi (insert prayer hands emoji).

I also admit I have yet to read Frankenstein, but I Will. Soon...
